The apocalyptic Raelian sect is preparing for the Big Bang and has conducted a public meeting on Sunday in the Volkshaus. The ideas distributed by its founder and guru, Claude Vorilhon alias Rael, are reminiscent in a fatalistic way of groups which stage collective sect drama. Concerning the extraterrestrial being of Elohim, who is supposed to save us, Rael wrote in an apocalyptic style, "To die for Elohim, that is the most beautiful thing that this planet has to offer. It is the key to Allah's garden or to the planet of perpetuity."
The adherents of the UFO sect, which is active worldwide, believe that the cosmic super-being of Elohim will soon arrive with UFOs and liberate people who have the proper awareness from their earthly valley of sorrow. So it is no coincidence that the magazine in which Rael makes his revelations bears the name "Apocalypse" (Nr. 101). The title and the program are the same.

Call for Martyrdom

Rael, who is honored by many thousands of adherents as a savior, gives an impression of suicidal tendencies in his article. Sacrificing oneself for the congregation is the "most admirable human conduct," wrote the UFO guru. He challenged his adherents to testify to the Raelian movement and he illustrated his call with a comparison: the Christians are respected today because the faithful of 2,000 years ago had been brave and would rather die in the lion's pit than renounce their faith. "Our sacrifice gives us greatness," announced Rael pathetically. The article reads like a summons to suicide and martyrdom.
What makes Rael put his adherents in such a psychic borderline situation? The UFO group is criticized in various countries. The French administration, for instance, has classified the Raelians as a dangerous sect. In Pakistan his followers are even persecuted, wrote Rael. He continued that in order to be respected in the future, it would be better to sacrifice one's life.
Rael explained that unfortunately there was no danger of having to die in Europe because one is a Raelian, "I say 'unfortunately' because there would be nothing more beautiful for me." He said that the Jews can thank the victims of the gas chambers for them being able to live peacefully in Israel today. "Entrance to the planet of Elohim is reserved for those who consciously take this sacrifice upon themselves," he incites his followers.

Especially active in Zurich

The Raelian movement is represented in 50 countries on all five continents and has been especially active in Zurich for several years. The UFO sect made headlines in Summer of 1997 because it announced that it would soon clone people. Whoever wants a duplicate of himself can order one for $200,000.
The Swiss adherents have introduced themselves at the Federal Assembly and have already demanded diplomatic status for Elohim. Besides that they want the government to erect a UFO landing field and an ambassador's residence. Otto Stich, who was then a member of the Federal Assembly, responded by asking if Elohim, as a counter-gesture, would be willing to establish a Swiss embassy on his planet. Since then a diplomatic news black-out has been in effect.

Le idee spiegate dal suo fondatore, Claude Vorilhon alias Rael, ricordano in modo fatalistico gruppi che hanno portato a drammi collettivi. In merito all'essenza extraterrestre degli Elohim, che si pensa ci debbano salvare, Rael ha scritto in modo apocalittico. "Morire per gli Elohim, che e' la cosa piu' bella che questo pianeta possa offrire, e' la chiave al giardino di Allah o al pianeta dell'eternita'."
Gli aderenti alla setta degli UFO, che e' attiva in tutto il mondo, crede che il cosmico super-essere Elohim arrivera' presto con gli UFO e liberera' le persone che hanno la propria consapevolezza dalla valle terrena del dolore. Percio' non e' una coincidenza che il giornale a cui Rael fa le sue rivelazioni si chiama "Apocalypse" (Nr 101). Il titolo e il programma sono gli stessi.

Chiamata per il Martirio

Rael, che e' riconosciuto da alcune migliaia di aderenti come il salvatore, offre nel suo articolo l'impressione di preferire tendenze suicide. Sacrificarsi per il movimento e' la "condotta umana piu' apprezzabile", scrisse il guru UFO. Egli invita i suoi aderenti a confermarsi al movimento raeliano e illustra la sua chiamata con un confronto: oggi i cristiani sono rispettati perche' i fedeli di 2000 anni fa sono stati coraggiosi e avrebbero preferito morire nell'arena contro i leoni piuttosto che rinunciare alla loro fede. "Il nostro sacrificio ci dona grandezza." ha annunciato pateticamente Rael. L'articolo va letto come una chiamata al suicidio e al martirio.
Che cosa induce Rael a portare i propri seguaci ad una cosi' estrema situazione psichica? Il gruppo UFO e' criticato in varie nazioni. L'amministrazione francese, per esempio, ha classificato i raeliani come una setta pericolosa. In Pakistan i suoi seguaci sono perseguitati, scrive Rael. Continua dicendo che per essere rispettati in futuro, sarebbe meglio sacrificare la propria vita.
Rael ha spiegato che sfortunatamente non c'era pericolo di dover morire in Europa perche' uno e' Raeliano. "Ho detto 'sfortunatamente' perche' non ci sarebbe nulla di migliore per me." Ha detto che gli Ebrei posso ringraziare le vittime delle camere a gas perche' cosi' oggi possono vivere in pace in Israele. "L'ingresso nel pianeta degli Elohim e' riservato a quelli che coscientemente mettono il proprio sacrificio su tutto." incita i suoi seguaci.

Molto attivi in Zurigo

Il movimento raeliano e' presente in 50 paesi in tutti e cinque i continenti ed e' stato molto attivo in Zurigo per parecchi anni. La setta UFO fece notizia nell'estate del 1997 preche' annuncio' che presto avrebbe clonato umani. Chiunque voglia una copia di se stesso puo' ordinarne una per $200.000.
Gli aderenti svizzeri si sono presentati all'Assemblea Federale ed hanno chiesto lo status diplomatico per gli Elohim. Oltre a questo essi vogliono che il governo prepari una pista di atterraggio e una ambasciata. Otto Stich, che allora era un membro del'Assemblea Federale, rispose chiedendo se gli Elohim, come controparte, sarebbero stati lieti di stabilire una ambasciata svizzera sul loro pianeta. Da allora e' in corso un black-out diplomatico.
